The joints need to support, transmit and resist axial forces of thousands of kg.
Each wheel of the front axle axis is controlled by a respective bar, which is located between the steering mechanism and the steering lever. The driver cannot steer without this component.
These joints are subjected to operating stresses every day, and this requires that the correct materials be carefully selected.
Since this is a component that is continuously subject to stress, over time and with progressive wear it is not unusual to hear a particular noise (similar to a “metallic sizzle”) and to notice some play on the steering wheel: this is a sign that the axial joints should be replaced.
